November 2015 Newsletter

Dear Friends and Supporters;

The year is coming to an end and what a wonderful year it has been so far! Thanks to all who have continued to support the Central Downtown Food Basket. Through your efforts we have been able to expand our services to other areas in Sacramento.

One of those areas is on the CSUS (Sacramento State) campus involving a “Free Farmer’s Market”, where CDFB distributes fresh produce and bread to those students who are food insecure. This new venture took place on October 20th and was met with huge success! You can find our pop up pantry every third Monday of the month, between the Student Union and the CSUS Bookstore. Our other new distribution site will be at the Elder Creek Elementary school located on Lemon Hill Drive. There we will be handing out groceries every third Friday of the month to those families that need help in supplementing their food budget and are having a hard time making ends meet. Our first distribution will be on November 20th and we are looking to add two more schools in 2016!

Thanks to a very generous donor, we now have access to warehouse space and also a special thanks to St. John’s Lutheran Church for their recent donation of a 5×10 enclosed trailer. With this good news our organization will be able to pick up and store more donations from various food drives and local stores. CDFB is also Serv-Safe Manager Certified which allows us to go into restaurants and catering events and repack foods for distribution that otherwise would go to waste. We do not turn any donation down, if we can’t use it, we will find someone or another organization that can.

As I have said before and I will say again and again, your monetary support means so much to CDFB. You, the supporters are the backbone of our organization and without your help would not be where we are today and with your continued support we will be able to feed more areas in need.

May the holidays bring joy to you and your families and wishing you the gift of faith, the blessing of hope and the peace of God’s love, now and forever.
